The Choptank River Heritage Center (CRHC) is located along the banks of the upper Choptank River in West Denton. CRHC is housed in a turn of the century steamboat warehouse at the restored Joppa Wharf, and is one of only two remaining riverfront warehouses in Maryland and one of the last surviving such structures in the Chesapeake Bay region. This brochure tells you more about the CRHC and its programs. Caroline County is one of only a handful of counties in the United States that existed for more than 300 years solely dependent on an agriculturally-based economy. The Museum of Rural Life offers visitors a rare glimpse into this world through historic dwellings. This brochure explains some of the Museum's most notable exhibits, including some or all of four different historic residences. Finding a Way to Freedom: The Underground Railroad in Caroline and Dorchester Counties in the 1850's is a 105-mile Driving Tour which will guide you to exhibits, homes and home sites, meeting houses, mills and courthouses that illustrate the story of the Underground Railroad in Caroline and Dorchester Counties in the 1850s. You can begin and end your tour anywhere along the route. To complete the entire tour, plan on a minimum of four hours.
